My name is Rebecca and my father, Mike, asked me to help write the mission statement for this website. Every good site has a mission statement, you see… an “about us” section that sums up what you should expect from us and what we promise to expect of ourselves. My dad wrote one, and he asked me to have a crack at it as well. It’s a very difficult thing… summing up an entire philosophy in a few paragraphs. Please bear with me, with us, as we give it a shot.
The first thing you should know about urbanecologie is that we’re a family business. There have been arguments over tag lines (“be ecocentric” was my idea, by the way), debates over banner placement, and multiple hand-sketched logos on bits of scrap paper have been passed around at family functions. We have all endlessly pored over catalog after catalog of environmentally responsible products, each of us defending our favorites in hopes of them making it onto the website. Even my 3-year-old nephew has a voice in this store, having handpicked many of the toys in our children’s section.
There are so many amazing people and companies out there making such unique and wonderful products, and we have worked very hard to try to bring together the best ecologically sound goods we could find. Everything you see on our site has been assembled with the planet’s health in mind - we have chosen each and every shirt, bag, gift, and pencil because we believe that you will love them. These products are a delight to own, a pleasure to show off, and the best part is that they come with the peace of mind that you are consuming responsibly. We believe that taking care of our planet should be a joy, not a burden, and we hope that after experiencing some of our products, you will feel the same.
I suppose I’ve summed up what to expect from us pretty well. Now, let me tell you what we expect from ourselves. We expect to always be a family business. Our website is all the more special because everyone we love has had a hand in it, and we plan on keeping it that way. We expect to provide the best customer service possible, exceeding your expectations and putting a smile on your face while we do it. Most of all, we expect to keep helping the environment in every way we can. We are proud members of One Percent for the Planet, we try to conserve as much as possible, and, as for me, I am proud to say that I always keep the water off while brushing my teeth.
This was probably way too long, and my dad will probably be surprised that I went with a letter instead of a couple of paragraphs, but I would just like to say thank you.
